The annual SRS® Classic Ram Sale has developed a reputation as a one-stop-shop for commercial producers to source elite SRS® Merino and Poll Merino rams from some of the industry's best breeders. Now in its 8th year the Classic features 82 ‘top of drop’ rams from seven leading SRS® studs and will be held on Saturday 13 October 2012 at the Wellington Showground. Inspection from 10am with the sale commencing at 1.30pm. Check out the latest promotional video below:
The 2011 sale saw a record attendance as more commercial producers recognise the significant benefits of these all-purpose sheep in terms of increased profitability, improved fertility and low maintenance.
As in years past, the SRS® Classic Ram Selling Group will be giving back to the local community with 10% of each participating Stud’s top priced ram going to charity. In 2011, the beneficiary was Phil Kearn’s Humpty Dumpty Foundation (www.humpty.com.au) which raises money to purchase vital children’s medical equipment for regional hospitals.
The SRS® Classic Ram Selling Group work together to promote the many benefits of SRS® Genetics. All members of the group adhere to a strict code of ethics and display a high level of integrity within their businesses. They are Bella Lana, Boxleigh Park, Glenwood, and Mumblebone from the Wellington region; GullenGamble, Yeoval; Hilltop, Mudgee; and Parkdale, Dubbo. Together the group joins more than 40,000 ewes each year and breeds more than 2000 rams.
SRS® Studbreeders are strong supporters of the work of Sheep Genetics Australia with ASBVs providing commercial producers the opportunity to benchmark sire performance against the industry. As such, key ASBVs will be displayed for all rams in the SRS® Classic Sale.
All members of the group have ceased mulesing and aim to produce an easy-care, all-purpose Merino that is highly profitable. They offer cutting edge genetics using the SRS® breeding system. SRS® Merinos:
The SRS® Classic Ram Sale features "top of the drop" Merino and Poll Merino rams selected specifically to suit the needs of our commercial clients around Australia.
“My family has used SRS® genetics for over 15 years and I am pleased to say we have just taken our untreated, un-mulesed ewes through a magnificent year with 800mm of rain. They did this without any body strike at all, a true testament to their wool quality. The average micron of our clip has also fallen by two counts since changing to the SRS breeding system. This was done without any loss of fleece weight and has significantly improved the value of our clip."
“We run over 2000 commercial merino ewes on Gundawanna and have been averaging approximately 150% scanning over the last three years including our maiden ewes using SRS® genetics. We are also seeing huge gains in our fleece weights with our two tooths cutting equivalent at eight months to that of a traditional wool cut over twelve months."
