The SRS® Monaro Ram Selling Group work together to promote the many benefits of SRS® genetics and have built a solid reputation for delivering truly multi-purpose Merinos with high fleece weights of fine wool on a meat carcase. They are BellaLana, Blyth, Boxleigh Park, Glenwood, Mumblebone, Parkdale, Richmond and Sherwood.

All members of the group adhere to a strict code of ethics and display a high level of integrity within their businesses. They are committed to the future profitability of the Merino industry and are seen as innovators by many.

All members of the group have ceased mulesing and aim to produce an easy-care, dual-purpose Merino that is highly profitable. They offer cutting edge genetics using the SRS® breeding system. SRS® Merinos:

    1. Are plain-bodied with minimal skin wrinkle, naturally resistant to fly strike and do not require mulesing.
    2. Produce high fleece weights of fine, silky soft wool.
    3. Are easy to shear and easy to manage, requiring minimal chemical use.
    4. Are extremely fertile and weaning averages over 120% are commonly seen.
    5. Have excellent muscle patterning and fat reserves and therefore bounce back quickly after drought, pregnancy and lactation, saving a fortune in supplementary feeding costs.

The Second Annual SRS® Monaro Ram Sale will be held at Severn Park, Cooma, on Thursday 25 October 2012.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY:

“I see two important points emerging so far. Firstly, that we could simply class up the ewes according to SRS® principles and see an immediate and predicted big lift in potential lambing of about 30%. Secondly, and this seems incredible, I could go and buy 14 rams which were barely 12 months old, drive them home, a nine hour trip, give them a day off, then shear them, then vaccinate and drench them two days later, and then join them at only 1.2 % and get such high pregnancy rates”

“My family’s farming background straddles six generations on the Monaro. For the last six years, which spanned both record drought and near-record rainfall and humidity, we have seen a significant response in the productivity (and profitability) of our flock, thanks largely to the introduction of fibre and conformation traits associated with SRS selection.

These improvements include the abolition of mulesing, with breech strike levels less than 1% across the flock, average flock micron reduced from 21 to 18.5, and an average wool yield increase of 15%. This year’s lamb clip returned our best price in a decade, measuring 65mm at six months growth and averaging 17.2 microns with 99.4% comfort factor. On top of this, we have a bigger, better-mothering and more robust animal.”
